Mercury amalgam fillings, or silver fillings for teeth. Theyre very common, in the USA and Britain, that is. Strange, that most of the rest of Europe have banned them, saying they are especially dangerous for young people and babies. Nobody hereMoreMercury amalgam fillings, or silver fillings for teeth. Theyre very common, in the USA and Britain, that is. Strange, that most of the rest of Europe have banned them, saying they are especially dangerous for young people and babies.

Nobody here noticed? Putting metal into peoples mouths is the most common surgical procedure in the civilised West and has been going on for 150 years. Strange, then, that is has never been properly studied or assessed. One man, a reclusive retail millionaire in the North West of England, decides to speak out, and is immediately threatened, followed, blackmailed and even injured. Donny, acting as part of the UKs Security Services is given the difficult job of trying to protect the guy, much against Donnys instincts: whatever is going on, it cant be simply a matter of mercury, surely!

Because - well, who can be behind all this mayhem - dentists?Slowly, piece by piece, the disturbing jigsaw reveals itself, and yes, there are more hidden forces at work, people in the shadows who want to see the millionaire silenced, for good. Donny has to involve his family, local criminals, and even the building trade, to help him in his task. In the end, it actually involves standing up to the government, our government, in Britain, and foreign governments abroad, as well.

The rich man, it seems, has managed to antagonise elements from many industrialised countries. His pronouncements are threatening trade, and thats not good for anyone. For Donny, theres only one question: can he fulfill his mission and keep the old guy alive? Because, if he fails, what is left for him to do then - except find the guilty parties and punish them in the only way he knows how - severely. This is an exciting crime thriller, starting in Manchester, but roaming around the whole of the North of England and then down to the capital, London. It involves a complex rainbow of characters, some good, some definitely not - which is awkward, as some of them are on our side.

Meanwhile, questions are asked and not many answers are given: where did the idea of filling teeth with a poisonous metal come from, and why, in this modern day and age, is it still considered by some to be the best treatment. Arent there any alternatives?

Well, of course, there are, as people in Scandinavia and Australia know. If new treatments are available to them, why is the USA and UK so loath to try them, in any meaningful way? Why, an investigator, even a dedicated and cynical one like Donny, might tentatively want to conclude that theres some sort of conspiracy going on.
